Modernizing the Kitchen: West Vancouver Condo Renovations

The condo’s original kitchen was an uninspiring place to create delicious food. The dark cabinets, laminate countertops and floor, and fluorescent lighting could not have been further from a chef’s kitchen.

First, we moved the electrical panel from the back wall, into the room on the other side of that wall. This freed up that space allowing us to create a U shaped kitchen. Next we removed the drop ceiling and raised the ceiling as high as it could be. This provided the room with a spacious and modern feel. After raising the ceiling the space was confronted with the eye soar of bulkheads. To conceal this, we extended the upper cabinets to full ceiling height, creating a streamlined look without visual distractions.

To create a modern and dynamic feel we installed modern wood lower cabinets and sleek white upper cabinets. The new oven and microwave were built into a cabinet tower to allow for more storage throughout the rest of the cabinets. To open up the space, the doorway was removed from the entry, extending the height of the entry up to vaulted ceiling allowing light from the skylight to pour in.

Just outside of the U shape kitchen is a built in desk. The same cabinet and counter were used for continuity and now the couple has a location to check emails on their laptop or pay bills. This workspace also created the opportunity for some built in wine storage, perfectly located off the living area.
