Built Green
|
 |
My House Design/Build Team is also pleased to be Built Green BC certified and can work with you to implement Built Green standards in your project.
In order to promote projects that are healthier for the environment, the BC Building Code changed on September 5, 2008. The changes for residential, commercial and industrial buildings involve:
- Insulation standards
- An EnerGuide rating of 77 can be used as an alternative to meeting insulation requirements, or computer modeling can be used, resulting in equivalent performance
- Ultra low-flow toilets and other water-saving plumbing are mandatory
- New objectives for water and energy efficiency
- Changes in insulation for natural gas-heated buildings
- Changes in attic space insulation
Built Green BC promotes construction of buildings that are healthier for the occupants and healthier for the environment. Sustainable or "green" building practices can reduce the tremendous impact that building, both on people and on nature. Built Green practices include:
- Better energy efficiency, which provides comfort and long-term savings for the homeowner
- Healthier indoor air-giving comfort, better health, and peace of mind for the family
- Durable, reduced-maintenance materials, providing a longer life for the home and long-term savings
- Preserving natural resources, leaving more for future generations to enjoy
This benefits you with:
- Lower electric and water utility costs
- Long-term economic returns
- Enhanced health and productivity
- Environmentally effective use of building materials
- Reduced environmental impact
