In this South Surrey kitchen remodel project, we turned a dark and dated kitchen into a modern, bright, and functional new space.

To brighten up this dark kitchen, we repainted the previous dark greyish-blue walls in Sea Salt by Benjamin Moore. We installed strategically placed pot lights in the ceiling to light the countertops and added a stunning pendant chandelier over the kitchen island eating area.

Unique Features of this South Surrey Kitchen Remodel

An offset island is quite unique in this space. Instead of a traditional rectangle, it’s got 2 rectangle islands at slightly different heights, and slightly offset to create space for three new fabric upholstered chairs for the family to socialize in during meal prep. We also knocked out the wall separating the kitchen from the living room and made a pass through from the kitchen island. The new five burner flat top stove on the island has large, yet not overbearing exhaust hood so cooking fumes don’t linger in the kitchen.

Several simple, understated touches help enhance the space. We updated the window molding to add a touch of modern elegance. The cabinet and drawer handles use two different, complementary handles styles: some silver semi-circle, and others with a crystal-like gem handle. And the microwave is built into the cabinet wall, which is significantly less clunky the old the microwave shelf.

The focal point of the main wall is the stunning back splash behind the main sink and counters. Three floral tile squares site directly behind the sink and are surrounded by a randomized two-tone tile pattern. The new granite counter tops provide contrasting texture and replace the dated whitewashed ones in the previous kitchen.

Sometimes in kitchen remodel, or any home renovation, there are bits and pieces of the original home hat the homeowners love and want to keep. This was the case in this Surrey home. The homeowners had a stunning frosted patio door which we were able to preserve in the newly remodeled space.
