Process in an Exterior Home Renovation

Here’s some of the steps we followed in this White Rock exterior home renovation. The original stucco façade was lacking in character. Now with new materials and architectural detailing, the home has been transformed from ‘plain jane’ to charming ‘beach beauty’.

The exterior was rain-screened, then clad in low maintenance concrete composite shingles more characteristic of a beach house. The existing peaked windows over the front entry were replaced with a single oversized round window creating the feeling of a classic seaside cottage. Corbel architectural details along the rooflines and knee braces in the gable ends add character and interest to the exterior transformation. The new white craftsman-style entry columns and enhanced architectural moldings applied to windows helped transform the look.

The outdoor living space was enlarged to accommodate a seating area surrounding a concrete fire bowl. The newly expanded deck, built with low maintenance composite-wood decking, now allows space for a barbecue off the kitchen, and an outdoor dining area for casual meals outside. Removing the former wood pergola structure over the deck also opened up the view from inside the house.

The frameless glass railings surrounding the newly expanded deck keep the sightlines ‘clear’ to the ocean beyond.

All in all, a total transformation in this White Rock exterior home renovation, all originating from the client’s desire for a traditional beach house by the sea. Home owners now can truly enjoy relaxing evenings by the bay.
