The homeowners of this Burnaby bathroom renovation weren’t happy with their home. They didn’t like their kitchen and bathroom, but did like the neighbourhood. They knew they could be happy in their home with a kitchen and bathroom upgrade.
Before the renovation, the kitchen was tucked away in a dark alcove. Natural light and views were in the front of the home where less time was spent. We decided to move the kitchen from the middle of the house to the side, as this allowed the creation of a light-filled open concept living space with a view. This also meant the bathroom changed locations.
These important changes are why the “before” and “after” pictures in this gallery show very different “before” spaces. The new bathroom’s eventual location was what had been the dining room. See pictures of the whole house renovation.
In addition to the work required to plan and move the kitchen and bathroom to different locations on the main floor, this project was also notable because the home is shaped like a trapezoid. That is, it is 1.5 feet wider at front than back. This meant framing and internal finishing were interesting. The home was also sloped a bit to the left, which required new secondary beams and framing to fix floors and walls.
Burnaby Bathroom Renovations: White Walls, Tiled Floors, Warm Honey Cabinets
A small outdated bathroom with an under-utilized tub became a modern space with a generous walk-in shower and new vanity with two sinks.
Warm tiles now spread across the floor.
We made the space seem larger by floating the new cabinets, and using a wall-hung toilet.
