Transitional Kitchen Renovations in Vancouver, BC

The design team at My House Design/Build/Team are grateful to have had many opportunities to work on transitional kitchen renovations, as these photos show.

You may be wondering what transitional kitchen design is. This information will help answer that.

What is Transitional Kitchen Design?

Transitional kitchen design takes design elements from contemporary kitchen design (which tends to be straight lines, subtle colours and also elements from traditional kitchen design (which tends to be warmer and more personal).

Combining contemporary and traditional kitchen designs in one can give a kitchen sleek lines, modern look, as well as some interesting finishes and colourful accents. A transitional kitchen can have soft touches and personalization without being too stark.

What goes into Creating the Look for a Transitional Kitchen?

Colours

Often, transitional kitchens make use of whites, greys, beiges and blues.

The neutral, calm colour will help to achieve a light and airy feel which can work very well with open floor plans. These neutral colours can also be attractive to buyers.

Pops of colour can be added here and there in a non-permanent way such as flowers, decorative items and hanging art.

Fixtures & Tile

Fixtures tend to be matte, but there is some wiggle room there.

Backsplash and tile tends to be unbusy, but a statement backsplash behind the stove can add a bit of interest, especially if any other kitchen tile is kept simple.

Appliances

Stainless steel appliances are nearly always preferred today.

Countertops

Countertops tend to be marble quartz or quartzite.

Flooring

Floors are usually large tile or wood.

Lighting

Lighting is usually recessed or hanging, but not ultra-ornate nor fussy.

Cabinetry

Cabinetry is usually light or medium in colour. Streamlined with hardware that has sleek, clean lines.
