This Vancouver character home underwent a main floor transformation to improve flow and modern functionality while respecting its original charm. The enclosed kitchen was opened up with a large L-shaped layout and central island with seating, perfect for family living and entertaining. The main floor bathroom received a cosmetic refresh, and the yard was re-landscaped to connect seamlessly with a new partially covered deck, creating a safe and enjoyable outdoor space for children.
Original knotty pine mouldings were preserved, and vintage oak floors were replaced with closely matched alternatives. Modern and traditional design elements were blended throughout, including a custom fireplace with wood surround and tile face, Canadian quartz countertops, a fireclay farmhouse sink, and a striking blue kitchen island.
Fisher & Paykel appliances were selected to honor the client’s New Zealand heritage. LED lighting and an electric deck heater were added for convenience and comfort, and a composite exterior railing provides low-maintenance charm.
The result is a thoughtfully reimagined space that balances historic character with modern living and family-friendly functionality.
