This heritage home in the heart of Queens Park, New Westminster offered incredible character, but decades of poorly executed 1960s–70s renovations left the interior feeling cramped and disconnected. Small, chopped-up rooms and an inefficient layout no longer supported the needs of a busy modern family.
Approach
Our goal was to preserve the home’s historic charm while redesigning the layout for contemporary living. We opened up the main floor to create a bright, functional great room that brings the completely revamped kitchen, dining, and living spaces together. Additional bathrooms were added and reconfigured to better serve a growing family, and a dedicated home office was created to support work-from-home needs without sacrificing flow or comfort.
Renewal
Outdoor living was another key priority. By adding a covered deck and maximizing connection to the nicely sized yard, the family can now enjoy outdoor space year-round.
Working within the Queens Park heritage requirements, we carefully matched all exterior finishes. This included installing wood windows that replicate the original profiles, restoring and matching wood siding, and adhering to the required shake shapes to maintain historical authenticity. Inside, original flooring was exposed and tied into new sections to create a seamless blend of old and new.
The result is a thoughtfully reimagined heritage home—one that honours its architectural roots while finally offering the function, comfort, and modern flow the homeowners dreamed of.
