To create a brighter, more open space, the wall between the existing dining area and kitchen was taken down, as was the wall between the kitchen and family room. This made space for a large kitchen island, with seating for four, perfect for spending time with family during meal prep, or when entertaining.

To further light the space in this New Westminster kitchen renovation, recessed pot lights were installed throughout the newly combined kitchen-dining space. Small pot lights were also installed under the cabinets to light the newly created counter space. Over the kitchen island, we installed unique, round white pendant lighting and the dining table is accentuated with a contemporary chandelier.

To link the newly opened living/dining/kitchen space, we refinished the original hardwood floor and matched it to add flooring to new areas. The existing blue and yellow wall colors were painted over with a light grey to brighten up and link the opened space.

The backyard can be accessed through a door in the kitchen, so we created a small, coat nook next to the back door with drawers for the family’s scarves and mittens.

In the kitchen, our design team installed new white upper and blue lower cabinets. The back-kitchen wall was beautifully tiled with a charcoal grey tile backsplash to complement the blue cabinets. To complete the modernized look, a brand-new oven/range, dishwasher, double-wide refrigerator, and built-in microwave were installed.
